Terms & Conditions

Draft v1 · Last updated: June 2026

1. Who provides Knot

Knot is operated by Knot Finance, based in Karnataka, India (“Knot,” “we,” “us”). Knot Finance is currently a sole operator with incorporation pending; it is not yet a registered company. References to Knot mean its current operator and any successor entity formed upon incorporation.

2. Acceptance of these terms

By creating an account, or by accessing or using Knot, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated here by reference. If you do not agree, do not use Knot. We may update these Terms; material changes will be communicated through the app or by email, and continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction) and capable of forming a binding contract to use Knot. Knot is intended for personal, non-commercial money management and is not directed at children. You are responsible for the security of your account credentials and for all activity under your account.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use Knot for any unlawful purpose, or to store or process data you have no right to;
  • upload another person's financial data, or link a partner without that person's knowledge and consent;
  • attempt to access accounts, data, or systems that are not yours, or probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the service without authorization;
  • reverse-engineer, scrape, overload, or interfere with the service, its AI features, or its infrastructure, or abuse rate limits;
  • use Knot to develop a competing product, or resell or sublicense access.

5. Not financial, tax, or legal advice

Knot is a personal finance tool, not a financial advisor, bank, broker, lender, or money transmitter. Nothing in Knot — including budgets, predictions, insights, the “broke by the 20th” estimate, or anything the AI assistant says — is financial, investment, tax, accounting, or legal advice. It is general informational content to help you understand your own money. You are solely responsible for your financial decisions, and you should consult a qualified professional before acting on anything you see in Knot.

6. AI features and accuracy

Knot uses third-party AI models (currently OpenAI's gpt-4o-mini and, as a fallback, Google's gemini-2.5-flash) to parse statements, categorize transactions, answer questions, and generate insights. AI output can be incomplete, inaccurate, or misleading, including misreading a statement, miscategorizing a transaction, or stating a number confidently that is wrong. You must review and verify anything Knot parses or suggests before relying on it. We do not warrant the accuracy of AI output, and details of how AI processes your data are described in our Privacy Policy.

7. Your content and our intellectual property

You retain ownership of the financial data and files you put into Knot (“Your Content”). You grant us a limited license to store and process Your Content solely to operate the service for you — for example, to parse a statement, run AI features at your request, and display your data back to you. The Knot name, logo, design, software, and the service itself are owned by Knot and protected by intellectual property laws; these Terms do not transfer any of those rights to you.

8. Service provided “as is”

Knot is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that any result obtained from it will be accurate or reliable.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Knot and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, savings, or financial outcomes, arising from your use of or inability to use the service — including decisions made in reliance on AI output. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

10. Termination

You may stop using Knot and delete your account at any time from Settings; deleting your account removes your data as described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, misuse the service, or where required to protect users or comply with law. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability — will survive.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of Karnataka, India will have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them or from your use of Knot, subject to any mandatory consumer-law protections in your place of residence.

12. Contact
